St. Francis’ Prayer

While working on my next post I revisited a prayer by Francis of Assisi. I honestly have not read a lot of prayers by historical church figures, however, this prayer is something very precious to me and it absolutely resonates with my soul. It is my prayer today, and I am hoping that it can be yours as well. May we all be an instrument of his peace.

“Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, the truth;
Where there is doubt, the faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled, as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.”

I am first and foremost someone who is trying to follow the example and teachings of Jesus. I serve on the pastoral staff of a church in Iowa and I love writing, reading, and my dog Pepper.
